After winning the opening game of the leg, India couldn’t quite carry the momentum and were thrashed by ten wickets in the next game by the Aussie side in Visakhapatnam. Choosing to bat first in the series decider and the third ODI, the Men in Yellow scored a competitive 269 in 49 overs. Mitchell Marsh top scored for his team with a handy 47 runs, while Alex Carey also contributed crucial 38 runs to the teams’ total.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav were the picks of the bowlers for India as they bagged three wickets each for 44 and 56 runs, respectively.
In reply, India couldn’t chase the set target and were bundled out for 248 in 49.1 overs. Although Virat Kohli (54) scored a resilient fifty for the team, he failed to sail the hosts through and, unfortunately, ended up on the losing side. Meanwhile, Adam Zampa took four wickets for the visitors and was well supported by Ashton Agar, who picked two scalps.
One of India’s most explosive batters in recent times, Suryakumar Yadav, yet again let the hopes of fans down as he went back to the pavilion in the series decider without opening his account. It was for the third time in a row that the 32-year-old Mumbai cricketer got dismissed for a golden duck in the leg. Notably, he departed for back-to-back zeroes in the first and second matches of the series as well. With such woeful form in the ODI format, the world’s no. 1 ranked T20I batter also became the first Indian to register a hattrick of ducks in the 50-over format.
Following the embarrassing feat of Surya, Netizens trolled the former for his bad run and shared some hilarious memes on social media. Some even expressed their dissent with Indian selectors for considering Surya over Sanju Samson in the ODIs.
