Emma Raducanu is the new star of British sport, and politicians have been quick to lavish praise on the new overnight sensation.
But after Raducanu won the US Open Tennis on Saturday night, eyebrows were raised when Nigel Farage tweeted his congratulations stating: “A global megastar is born, Emma Raducanu winning the US Open is truly incredible”.
The teenager, whose father is Romanian, is unlikely to be impressed with the former UKIP leader’s comments in 2014, when he was criticised for suggesting he would not like ‘a group of Romanians to move in next door’.
Farage said: “Any normal and fair-minded person would have a perfect right to be concerned if a group of Romanian people suddenly moved in next door.”
