The 2019 ODI World Cup runner-ups New Zealand secured a convincing victory over the defending champions England in the opening match of the CWC 2023.

England’s Batting Display​


England, after being put into bat by New Zealand, posted a total of 282/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Joe Root played a crucial knock, contributing 77 runs off 86 balls, supported by Jonny Bairstow, who scored 33 runs, and Jos Buttler, who added 43 runs. Matt Henry was the star with the ball for New Zealand, claiming three wickets for 48 runs.

In response, New Zealand showcased their batting prowess, led by the exceptional performances of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra.
