In a light-hearted moment during the warm-up game between New Zealand and South Africa ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the Blackcaps fast bowler Trent Boult, showcased his playful side by imitating his Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson, while fielding near the boundary. The incident provided a delightful and amusing spectacle for the spectators and cricket fans alike.

Boult, known for his deadly swing bowling and athleticism in the field, displayed his versatile talents during this warm-up encounter. Positioned near the boundary, Boult couldn’t resist the urge to entertain the crowd and his teammates.

In an uncanny imitation of Sanju Samson’s characteristic hand gestures and mannerisms, Boult brought a smile to everyone’s face. Samson, who is recognized for his expressive body language and unique gestures while batting and wicketkeeping for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), seemed to be the inspiration behind Boult’s playful antics.

New Zealand beat South Africa by 7 runs (DLS Method)​


Opting to bat first, Kane Williamson’s New Zealand set a challenging target of 321/6 during their allotted 50 overs. Devon Conway delivered an exceptional performance with the bat, amassing 78 runs off 73 deliveries, which included 11 fours and one six. Additionally, Tom Latham contributed 52 runs from 56 balls, while Glenn Phillips provided a valuable 43 runs from 40 balls.

South Africa’s bowling effort was led by Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen, both of whom secured three wickets each in their pursuit to contain the Kiwi batsmen.

In response, South Africa found themselves at 211/4 after 37 overs, following a reduction in overs due to rain interruptions. Quinton de Kock played a pivotal role for the Proteas, amassing 84 runs off 89 deliveries, embellished with 12 fours and a solitary six. Rassie van der Dussen also made a notable contribution, contributing 51 runs from 56 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen added 39 runs from 37 deliveries.

New Zealand’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Trent Boult, who managed to secure two crucial wickets. Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi each claimed one wicket, further complicating South Africa’s pursuit of the target.
