Despite a slow start in the T20 World Cup, the Men in Green displayed resilience and reached the tournament’s final. Although the loss in the final was disheartening, there were a few bright spots, one of them being the emergence of Mohammad Haris.
At the age of 22, Haris, a talented top-order batsman and wicketkeeper, burst onto the scene with his explosive batting during the T20 WC. Since his impressive performance in the prestigious tournament, Haris has participated in fourteen matches across white-ball formats, but he is yet to register a score of fifty or more.
During a recent event, Haris expressed his ambition to play Test cricket and mentioned Rishabh Pant and Adam Gilchrist as the two cricketers he aspires to emulate in all three formats of the game.
“I want to represent Pakistan in all three formats. My aggressive style of batting is not only suited for just T20Is. Look at Rishabh Pant, he does the same. Even Adam Gilchrist used to play aggressively in Tests,” Haris was quoted as saying to Geo News.
Further, Haris expressed his intention to incorporate patience into his playing style and focus on accumulating singles.
“I need to become more patient as a batter and this is something I’m working on in the ongoing training camp.
“I can hit fours and sixes but I need to add singles and doubles to my game as well. I’m working on improving my ground shots,” he added.
Haris also heaped praise for Mohammad Rizwan while talking about the competition in the Pakistan team for the role of a wicketkeeper.
“Rizwan is the first choice as wicketkeeper for the Pakistan team. There is always stiff competition for the role of a wicketkeeper in a team, which is precisely the reason why I’m trying to become a better fielder so that I can play in the team purely as a batter,” the youngster said.
“I learn a lot from Rizwan about the game. Whenever I’m unable to perform well, Rizwan is usually the first person to support me. He also gave me many opportunities when we used to play for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added further.
