Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is poised to stage a triumphant return to professional cricket in the highly anticipated 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After enduring multiple injuries in a car crash last December, Pant was forced to miss IPL 2023, undergoing surgery on his right knee and sidelining himself for the entire season.

Rishabh Pant set for IPL 2024 comeback: A triumph over injury

Despite his absence in the previous season, Delhi Capitals (DC) displayed faith in the explosive left-hander, retaining him ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. As per a Cricbuzz report, Pant is projected to regain full fitness by February next year, indicating his readiness for the upcoming IPL season.

Delhi Capitals’ retention and leadership prospects

The report further stated that while there might be lingering concerns about his wicketkeeping capabilities, Pant is likely to play as an impact player and is positioned to lead the Capitals in the next season.

“If he is not keeping, he will definitely be on the field and will lead the side,” a franchise official was quoted as saying in the report.

Impact of Pant’s absence on DC’s IPL 2023 campaign

The void left by Pant’s absence was palpable in DC’s performance during IPL 2023. Struggling to find momentum, they finished as low as ninth on the points table, unable to contend for playoff spots. Pant’s return is eagerly awaited, offering DC a potent batting force and leadership presence for a potential resurgence in the upcoming season.

Beyond IPL: Missed opportunities and comeback journey

Pant’s absence extended beyond the IPL, resulting in missed opportunities in high-profile Test series and ICC events. Notably, he was unavailable for crucial encounters such as the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final and the ODI World Cup 2023. His journey back to full fitness reflects resilience and determination, making his return to the cricketing arena a significant comeback story.
