New batting coach for South Africa ahead of West Indies tour
Imraan’s appointment comes ahead of the two-match Test series against the West Indies, which begins on August 7. He will work closely with head coach Shukri Conrad to bolster South Africa’s batting lineup.
The 41-year-old has an impressive coaching record with the Dolphins, guiding the team to two four-day series titles, a shared one-day cup, and three T20 Challenge triumphs. His ability to nurture young talent is evident in the rise of players like Keshav Maharaj, Sarel Erwee, Keegan Petersen and Ottneil Baartman.

‘This is an exciting step in my path as a coach’
Imraan’s own playing career was marked by consistency. He amassed 9,367 runs in 161 first-class matches, including 20 centuries, and also represented South Africa in one Test and 121 List A matches. His experience as a top-order batter is expected to be invaluable in his new role.
“I want to thank the KZN Cricket Union for all their support,” Imraan said in an official statement. “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’ve loved starting my coaching career at the union that has been my home for many seasons. This is an exciting step in my path as a coach, but Kingsmead will always be home, and I will miss everyone here.”
The Dolphins will announce Imraan’s replacement in the coming weeks as they prepare for the start of the domestic T20 competition in late September.
