Glenton Stuurman ruled out of Australia Tests
South Africa fast bowler Glenton Stuurman will not be available for the upcoming Test series against Australia as the right-armer has been ruled out with an abdominal muscle strain. Stuurman picked up the injury during a CSA 4-Day Domestic Series game for the Dafabet Warriors against Hollywoodbets Dolphins at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

As per reports, the injury will keep him sidelined for six weeks. So far, Stuurman has played two Tests for South Africa, one away in New Zealand in February and the other at home against Bangladesh as a Covid-sub in April this year.

Medium-pacer Lizaad Williams has been called up to replace Stuurman. Notably, Williams has also played two Tests for the rainbow nation, both against Bangladesh this year, in which he picked up three wickets.

When it comes to the domestic first-class competition, where he plays for Momentum Multiply Titans, Williams picked up six wickets to bowl his side to an innings win against Knights last week. In the English summer, he had played for the county Northamptonshire. Further, Williams was also part of the South Africa white-ball squad that played in England in July, though he didn’t get any games.

South Africa’s tour of Australia will start on December 09 with a 4-day warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI at Allen Border Field in Brisbane. The Proteas will then travel to Gabba for the opening Test agaist the Aussies, starting December 17. The action will then move on to Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will host the Boxing Day Test to be played between December 26-to and 30. As usual, the New Year’s Test will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting January 04.

South Africa squad (Updated):

Dean Elgar (capt), Temba Bavuma, Gerald Coetzee, Theunis de Bruyn, Sarel Erwee, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne (wk), Lizaad Williams, Khaya Zondo.
