Criticism for World Cup performance and BCCI’s trust
The aftermath of the World Cup final was a bitter pill to swallow for India, with Suryakumar himself facing criticism for his performance in the ultimate clash against Australia, where he scored 28 runs off 28 deliveries. However, as the torch of leadership is passed to him by the BCCI in the T20 format, he shoulders the responsibility with determination.
Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive T20I form
The Mumbai-born cricketer, currently perched atop the ICC T20I batter rankings, boasts an impressive record in the shortest format. As he steps into his new role, the focus shifts from personal achievements to leading a young and talented squad that includes the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma and more future stars.

Suryakumar’s vision for the team and take on personal milestones
In the pre-match press conference preceding the first T20I against Australia, Suryakumar laid out his vision for the team. He emphasized the need for a selfless approach and clarified that personal milestones are secondary to the team’s overarching goal.
“What I told them [squad] when I met them in the afternoon today was let’s be very selfless when we go into the field. Because I’m a guy who doesn’t think too much about the personal milestones and instead thinks of the team’s goal,” said Suryakumar.
“And I’ve always told them that you have to keep the team first and then whatever comes after that, you can take your call. And I’ve played with them a lot of times during the IPL and a few India games as well, so they know how I function. And it wasn’t that difficult and we are really excited to go about in the series,” he added.
