The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol wrapped up its work in a historic hearing on Dec. 19, 2022. Over the past few months, the committee has made it clear in no uncertain terms that former president Donald Trump spurred a violent mob to march to the U.S. Capitol and subvert American democracy.
In their final hearing, the committee concluded that Trump was responsible for the insurrection and voted to recommend four criminal referrals for Trump to the Dept. of Justice: obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement, and inciting or assisting an insurrection.

The committee will also make a referral to the House Ethics Committee for four members of Congress who refused to comply with subpoenas.
Through opening statements, new footage, live witness testimony, and videos of those close to Trump speaking with the committee’s investigators, including former Attorney General Bill Barr, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, the Select Committee provided a forensic account of Trump’s culpability in the criminal conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
With MAGA Republicans, Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and other pro-insurrectionists continuing their assault on our democracy, our electoral system, and our country, we needed the Select Committee to deliver irrefutable evidence and narrative of the events leading up to and including the violent attack on Jan. 6, 2021.
They did not disappoint. Thanks to their incredible work, truth is finally having its day. Let’s thank them for their effort.
