The Hundred faced a big setback as Afghanistan’s T20I captain Rashid Khan announced his withdrawal from the 2023 competition due to injury. The Trent Rockets’ player was initially set to feature in three matches, but his absence has left a void in the tournament.
Rashid sustained an injury after his participation in the Major League Cricket (MLC) final on Sunday (July 30) in Dallas, where he impressed with figures of 3 for 9. The leg-spinner expressed his disappointment over the decision to withdraw and shared his hope of returning to The Hundred next year.
“I’m really disappointed to have to withdraw from The Hundred through injury. It’s been great to play in the competition the first two years, Trent Rockets is a great team, and I hope to be back again next year,” Rashid was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.
Replacing Rashid in the Trent Rockets squad is Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim, who will be available until August 10. Following that, New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi is set to join the team, as he was already scheduled to replace Rashid before the injury was announced.
This late change poses a challenge for the Rockets, and Rashid’s absence adds to the list of international stars who have withdrawn from the tournament.
