LSG posted the second-highest team total of IPL
Records were shattered in the 38th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday.

Put in to bat first, the Super Giants batting unit went berserk and completely demolished PBKS’ bowling attack. Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was the standout performer as he his career-best IPL score to help Lucknow post the second highest team total in the history of IPL.

Stoinis played a stunning knock of 72 off 40 balls, breaking his previous best of 65. His impressive 40-ball firecracker knock was studded with six boundaries and five maximums. Apart from Stoinis, Kyle Mayers scored 54 in 24 balls while Ayush Badoni scored 43 off 24 deliveries. West Indies star Nicholas Pooran chipped in with a crucial 45 as LSG went on to post 257/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Notably, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)’s 263/5 against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013 still remains the highest team total in IPL. During that contest, Caribbean giant Chris Gayle had struck an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls.

Highest IPL team score:

  • RCB – 263 (vs PWI in 2013)
  • LSG – 257 (vs PBKS today)
  • RCB – 248 (vs GL in 2016)
  • CSK – 246 (vs RR in 2010)
  • KKR – 245 (vs PBKS in 2018)
  • CSK – 240 (vs PBKS in 2008)
  • RCB – 235 (vs MI in 2015)
  • CSK – 235 (vs KKR in 2023)

Here is how Twitter reacted:

257/5 in 20 overs.. It seems like LSG batters were playing book cricket.. Some extraordinary power hitting by Mayers, Badoni, Stoinis and Pooran. Wicket is good so anything can happen. #PBKSvLSG #IPL2023

Why this score of LSG is bigger than RCBs 263:
Easy, they have banged gun bowlers like Kaguso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran & Rahul Chahar. This is firepower.

LSG, a team which couldn't score 31 runs in 36 balls with 9 wickets is batting on 175 in 14 overs. I know different pitches. But funny.
