Middle-order batter Laurie Evans smashed an outstanding 76 not out off 41 in a ‘Player of the Match’ performance as Perth Scorchers thrashed Sydney Sixers in the 2021-22 Big Bash League (BBL) final and lifted their fourth title.

Evan walked in to bat when Scorchers were 25/4. He then added a brilliant 104-run partnership for the fifth wicket with skipper Ashton Turner and propelled them to an imposing total of 171/6.

In reply, Sydney Sixers could only manage 92 and lost the contest by a heavy margin of 79 runs. They were bundled out inside 17 overs, with Daniel Hughes (42 off 33) the only batter to cross the thirty-run mark.

Fast bowler Andrew Tye was the pick of the bowlers for Scorchers with 3-15.

“I think any captain would stand here and talk about the obstacles we have had to come through to finish this tournament,” said Turner in the post-match presentation.

“The Sixers have been the best side for the last two years. They taught us how to play on these wickets. Well done for the way you have played before for your performance this season,” he added.

Scorchers win their fourth BBL title. A great win! Well played. And a great season from a very depleted Sixers side. What a wild ride this BBL season has been for all! Kudos to everyone who managed to keep it going. #BBL11

Perth Scorchers’ fourth title and undeniably the best of the lot. The signs were there early – looked the best team after a few games. Loaded in every position. Superb performance #BBL11

The Perth Scorchers played one home game all season, went on a seven-week road trip and tore the Sixers to shreds in the final. Might be their best title yet #BBLFinal

Scorchers were strong all over the season and they ended the season strong too. Perth Scorchers are the Champions of BBL11. Sadly Sixers couldn't defend the Championship and ended up as runner-up.#BBL11 #BBL pic.twitter.com/7SHgTHvWbI
