South Africa beat India in third Test
The relatively young South African side held nerve against a quality Indian team to register a famous win in the third Test at Newlands in Cape Town and sealed the three-match series 2-1.

During their chase of 212 runs, the home team had lost captain Dean Elgar right at the end of Day 3. But on Day 4, South Africa didn’t allow India to capitalise in the first hour of play. Keegan Petersen shined with the bat to ensure the hosts stay ahead of the visitors.

Petersen smashed a brilliant 82 off 113 deliveries, including 10 boundaries, before Shardul Thakur dismissed him. However, it was too late for the tourists to make a comeback. Petersen formed a dominating 54-run partnership for the third wicket with Rassie van der Dussen, who stayed unbeaten at 41 to take Proteas over the finish line. Along with van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma also remained unbeaten at 32.

Earlier, India were bundled out for 198 in their second innings, with only Rishabh Pant managing to stand tall against South Africa pacers. Pant smashed unbeaten century as India gave a target of 212 runs to the home side. When it comes to the first innings, South Africa made 210 in response to India’s 223.

Result didn't go our way but that doesn't change the fact that this was a gripping series. Every session was a contest. Congratulations to @OfficialCSA. You've got great foundation to build on. Petersen is ??And Rabada-Nortje-Ngidi-Jansen attack is going to be ? #SAvIND

Brilliant series victory from South Africa – consecutive 7 wicket victories chasing over 200 against this Indian attack is a special achievement.

South Africa's bowling is outstanding. If their batting develops, could be real contenders for the World Test Championship final

Final frontier remains unconquered. 2018 was a contest between two evenly matched sides and you could take a lot of heart from the performances even in a series defeat. This tour though…winning the first test…superior side…and then losing 1-2. This will hurt. Should hurt.

Tests where India lost by 7+ wickets after setting a target in excess of 200:
v SA at Johannesburg, 2022
v SA at Cape Town, 2022

Happened only twice and both are in India's last two Tests.#SAvIND

South Africa win! ?

Bavuma and van der Dussen take them over the line!

A terrific victory for a young team – what a performance! ?
