Colin Munro hits his maiden ton in BBL
New Zealand star Colin Munro smashed his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) century in the ninth match of the ongoing BBL 2021-22 between Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers on Saturday.

Munro’s record-breaking knock steered Scorchers to a massive 49-run win against Strikers at Sydney Showground Stadium. The Black Caps power-striker hit the highest ever score by a Scorcher. He made an unbeaten 114 off 73 balls, beating the previous highest 112 set by Craig Simmons more than seven years ago.

Munro smashed eight fours and 6 humungous sixes during his stellar knock that propelled Scorchers to post a massive 195/1 on the board in their allotted 20 overs after they opted to bat first.

Apart from Munro, wicketkeeper-batter Cameron Bancroft chipped in with valuable 45 off 37 deliveries. Bancroft formed a stunning 132-runs opening partnership with Munro before getting run-out in the 16th over.

In response, Strikers got bundled out for 146, losing the contest by 49 runs. Opener Matthew Short, with 63 off 47 balls, was their top scorer. For the Scorchers, Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye were the pick of the bowlers. While Behrendorff took a three-wicket haul while conceding 22 runs in 2.5 overs, Tye also bagged three scalps for 21 in three overs.

“One of my best knocks”: Munro on his remarkable ton

On his splendid knock, Munro shared some thoughts after the match, stating it was a bit uneasy for him during the start but was satisfying to finish the innings. The hard-hitting left-hander reckoned it was one of his best knocks.

“It’s one of those innings where I don’t think I’ve ever faced a white ball that moved that much so it was tough at the start, I probably didn’t hit a ball in the middle of my bat until the sixth or seventh over,” Munro, who was named ‘Player of the Match’, told Fox Cricket.

“It was just a sigh of relief (reaching triple figures), sometimes I can throw it away, and I told ‘V’ (coach Adam Voges) at the 10-over mark ‘, I promise you I’m trying to kick them over, mate. I’m trying to hit one up with chimney’. It’s funny how things turn, one or two good shots, and you’re away. I reckon it’s probably one of my best, to be honest. When you’ve got to fight like that and really scratch around and bat the full 20 overs, it’s really pleasing,” added Munro.

That was some knock from Colin Munro, who knocked off cult hero Craig Simmons' 112 for the @ScorchersBBL' highest ever individual knock of 114no. Serious striking at the end after getting dropped on 11 + 58 and having a couple of umpiring calls go his way.https://t.co/Gvj0dOMSJo pic.twitter.com/KJ7CdcfwNt
