Bangladesh beat New Zealand in the first Test
Bangladesh finally ended the long wait for their first victory over New Zealand in their backyard after defeating them by eight wickets at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday. With the victory, the tourists also become the first Asian side to beat Black Caps in New Zealand in Tests since Pakistan‘s 10-wicket triumph in Hamilton in January 2011.

The hosts resumed their second innings on the final day at 147/5 and were bundled out for 169, giving the visitors only 40 runs to win the contest. Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain registered his best figures in the longest format with 6/46 off 21 overs.

Chasing a paltry target of 40, Bangladesh finished the proceedings with eight wickets in hands to script a historic victory. Ebadot was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his splendid bowling performance in the game.

“It was teamwork. Everyone was keen to win the match, and they put their hand up in all three departments. We won because of the bowlers, both in the first and second innings, they were outstanding. They did all the hard work and bowled in the right areas. He (Ebadot) was unbelievable to us. We didn’t play well in the last couple of Test matches, and it was important to put our legacy to the next level. We have to forget about this win and look forward to the Christchurch Test,” said winning captain Mominul Haque after the match.

Here is how Twitter reacted:

Our Team’s performance over past four days wud be the norm, not the exception if only ⁦@BCBtigers⁩ had a vision, focussed on building a strong domestic cricket structure, rooted out match fixing corruption and were not a one man show. Salute to our players. #NZvsBAN pic.twitter.com/fsaqz6dnBz

As big a moment as this is for @BCBtigers cricket, couldn’t also be happier for @Isam84 and every member of the Bangladeshi press pack who’ve stuck with their team through sickness & in health without ever losing faith for two decades & more #NZvBAN
