India thrash Australia in the Nagpur Test
India made a dominant start to the four-match Test series against Australia, registering a crushing victory in just three days at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The win gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the series.

Indian bowlers were the stars of the show, with Ravichandran Ashwin taking a five-wicket haul (5/37) and Ravindra Jadeja picking up 2 wickets for 34 runs in Australia’s second innings. The duo were unplayable for the Aussie batters, reducing them to 67/7 in the 23rd over. Axar Patel and Mohammed Shami then took care of the remaining three wickets, securing an innings and 132-run win for India.

Ashwin’s five-wicket haul was his 31st in Test cricket and helped India secure a massive 223-run lead in the first innings. The bowlers ensured the lead was protected, dismissing Australia for a meagre 91 in the second innings.

Earlier, on the third day’s play, Axar shined with the bat as well, scoring his career-best 84, while adding 52 runs with Shami to push India’s first innings total to 400.

The all-round performance by comeback-man Jadeja was impressive, and he guided his team to a well-deserved win in the first Test of the series.

Here’s how Twitter reacted:

Australia's 2nd lowest score in a Test innings v India. India pick 10 wickets in a session. Comprehensive win for India. Great start to the Test series. Big takeaway was India scoring 400 on the pitch. India are a step closer to WTC final

Never judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it. If both teams struggle, it's the pitch. If just one team struggles, it's the skills. Well played Team India ?? ?? #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/b7QgZXlCXU

Could be wrong, but I can’t help thinking Aus have overthought things and got sucked into the pre-match pitch talk, much of that coming from Aus, ironically. That aside, their weaknesses against spin have been thoroughly exposed by Jadeja and Ashwin. #BGT #INDvAUS

Fantastic all round performance by Jadeja, 8 wkts in the match for Ashwin. My man of the match #RohitSharma! Sterling century, superb captaincy

A dominating Test win. Jadeja the shining star with bat and ball. Rohit showing his class with a magnificent 100, Ashwin demonstrating why Aussies are so worried about him and Axar Patel showing good all round skills and not to forget Shami. Happy unit , Team India . #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/xEszU6DKCq

Australia aren't as bad as this. But they must embrace the land as earlier touring teams were famously advised. The ball will turn, it is allowed, and they have to find a way to exist against such a fabulous opponent.
