Defending the target of 540 runs, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jayant Yadav picked four wickets each, while Axar got one in the fourth innings. Daryl Mitchell top-scored for the Black Caps with 60 runs while Henry Nicholls was dismissed on 44.
Earlier, Mayank Agarwal scored 150 runs in the first innings, while New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel became only the third bowler in Test history to take all 10 wickets in an innings. In the second innings, the hosts declared at 276/7 after bundling out the tourists at 62 in their first innings.
Largest victory for India (by runs):
- 372 vs NZ, Mumbai 2021*

- 321 vs NZ, Indore 2016
- 320 vs AUS, Mohali 2008
“Good to finish the Test series on a winning note, came very close in Kanpur, but couldn’t take that last wicket. Credit to the team, they have pulled themselves back from tough situations, and were a bit disappointed at not finishing it off in Kanpur. Good to see the boys step up and take their opportunities, we were missing a few seniors, but the youngsters have taken their chances,” said India coach Rahul Dravid after the match.

Fantastic win for India. New Zealand played fabulously to save the first test match but India were just too good in Mumbai. Feel happy for Jayant Yadav who has waited for long for a comeback and Mayank Agarwal showed his class where most other batsmen struggled . #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/ZKpqZgofHp

India ko India main harana namumkin Hai! If World Champion and No.1 side can lose so comprehensively against India which was missing almost half of its regular players, you can imagine the strength of Test side.Congratulations ? to the players. #INDvNZ #NZvIND #CricketTwitter

14th consecutive Test series win at home. Enviable record. India is the modern day ‘final frontier’ for the teams across the world.
A gentle reminder that India were missing 6 players from the first playing XI for the first Test at Kanpur and 5 in Mumbai. #IndvNZ

Inevitable. This is a quality test side. Very very difficult to beat at home.
