After winning the toss, India elected to bowl first and put New Zealand on the back foot right from the word go. The tourists struggled to build partnerships and got bundled out for a mere 108 in 34.3 overs. Glenn Phillips was their top scorer, making 36 runs off 52 balls.
India’s bowling attack was extremely dominant, with Mohammed Shami leading the way, taking three wickets for just 18 runs in six overs, including a maiden. Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar also contributed with two wickets each.
Chasing a low target of 109, India’s opening partnership of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set the tone, with the duo adding 72 runs. Rohit smashed 51 runs off 50 deliveries, including seven fours and two sixes, while Gill remained not out on 40. Eventually, India successfully chased down the target in 18.4 overs, winning the contest by eight wickets.

The discipline and consistency of length, and the skill of seam movement was top notch today from @MdShami11 and co. Didn't allow NZ to settle at all. Skipper also looking in fine touch ?? Congratulations on winning the series @BCCI ???? #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/zcweuxoMAP

Most consecutive home ODI bilateral series wins for India:
7* – in 2019-22
6 – in 2009-11
6 – in 2016-18
5 – in 2013-14
Since 2016, India lost a home bilateral series only once (v Australia).#INDvNZ

A commanding display by India against a very good New Zealand team. Shami was destructive with the ball and Rohit and Shubman made light work of a modest target. Yet another series win in the bag! This has been a great start to 2023! #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/bU2P9cL9oa

How many of you really feel Virat and Rohit can leave the last ODI and play the last Ranji league games for Delhi and Mumbai respectively – so as to prepare for India-Australia Test series?
