Virat Kohli and Babar Azam: Masters of the cover drive
Kohli, the former Indian captain, is widely regarded as one of the best batters in contemporary cricket, dominating across formats. On the other side, Babar has earned his place among the top-quality batters with consistent performances that have captured the admiration of cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
While both Kohli and Babar boast a diverse range of shots, the cover drive has become the focal point of comparison between these two cricketing stalwarts. The shot involves striking the ball through the cover region with exquisite wristwork, impeccable timing, and the classic movement of the front foot towards the pitch of a delivery around the off stump.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s choice
In a recent Q&A video by ESPNcricinfo, Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz found himself in a dilemma when asked to pick between Kohli and Babar’s cover drive. After careful consideration, Gurbaz leaned towards the former Indian captain’s rendition of the iconic shot.
Gurbaz on MS Dhoni vs. Rinku Singh and Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi
Not only was Gurbaz challenged with the cover drive dilemma, but he also faced other intriguing questions. When posed with the scenario of needing 30 runs off the last over of a T20 match, and having to choose between MS Dhoni and Rinku Singh, Gurbaz expressed his unwavering faith in the legendary Dhoni’s finishing abilities.
“I think you cant compare anyone with MS Dhoni and the finishing but Rinku is also better. I will go for MS Dhoni,” said Gurbaz.
In a non-cricketing context, Gurbaz was asked to decide between football superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Without hesitation, he picked the Portuguese maestro Ronaldo.
