The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 turned out to be a big success and also gave some young potential stars to Indian cricket. The sensational show of the talented players not just earned them praise from fans and experts but the demands of trying them out in the national set-up were raised as well. The recent performance of the Indian team in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 further fuelled the debate, and many veteran cricketers came up with the suggestion of giving those young players a chance to represent the nation.

Former India batter turned commentator Wasim Jaffer has now come up with something similar and revealed the names of a few young cricketers he feels should be included in India’s squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. Notably, the Men in Blue will visit West Indies for a multi-format series that commences from July onwards.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Jaffer picked the players based on their performance in the recently concluded IPL 2023. The 45-year-old started by saying that India needs to play fearless white-ball cricket and named Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh as his choices in the shortest format of the game.

“India will have to play fearless cricket. Especially in white-ball cricket, you will have to give chances to guys who are fearless because the game is changing now and if India have to win trophies, they will have to adopt that approach,” suggested Jaffer.

“In white-ball cricket, if we talk about especially T20 cricket, I feel Yashasvi Jaiswal is again one of them. Rinku Singh has been brilliant,” he added.

Jaffer further also picked Jitesh Sharma as Rishabh Pant’s replacement and reckoned that he feels Sanju Samson could make his way back into India’s ODI set-up.

“Jitesh Sharma – Rishabh Pant is currently not there. So Jitesh Sharma could be that guy to replace him, somebody who can bat at No. 5 or No. 6. Sanju Samson could probably come in 50 overs. I feel India will have to try these names,” said Jaffer.
