Beth Mooney powers Perth Scorchers to a stellar victory
The Scorchers, while batting first, faced an early setback with the loss of their skipper Sophie Devine. However, it was the remarkable performance by the left-handed batter, Beth Mooney, who steered the innings, scoring an unbeaten 101 runs off just 61 deliveries, single-handedly anchoring the team’s effort. Chloe Piparo contributed a quick 22 runs off 16 balls towards the end. The Scorchers concluded their innings at 159/4 in 20 overs, while the fielding side conceded ten extras.
In pursuit of the 160-run target, the Thunder struggled, losing wickets consistently and failing to challenge the chase truly. Chamari Athapaththu managed a modest ten before her dismissal, while Phoebe Litchfield showcased resilience as the top scorer with 45 runs off 38 deliveries. Sammy Jo Johnson added 34 runs off 33 balls, yet the remaining batters couldn’t breach the double-figure mark. The Thunder concluded their innings at 117/8 in 20 overs, with the fielding side conceding ten extras.

Amusing collision of Beth Mooney and Lauren Bell
During the second delivery of the sixth over, speedster Lauren Bell delivered a short ball that angled in. Mooney pulled the ball through the fine leg region, speeding along the turf towards the boundary ropes, evading the diving fine leg fielder. While completing a single run, the left-handed batter, focused on the ball’s path, unintentionally collided head-on with Bell, who was also tracking the motion of the white leather.
