Melbourne Stars kept their BBL play-off hopes alive with a thumping win over Brisbane Heat at the MCG on Sunday. Glenn Maxwell was the star of the night, scoring 37 off 30 balls after taking a one handed stunner.

Maxwell, fielding at mid-on, ran backwards and flung his left arm to send Heats’ Sam Heazlett back to the dugout. The catch was such that even Maxwell could not believe it as he held his hands over his mouth in disbelief. Even Nathan Coulter-Nile, who bowled that delivery, sat down after watching Maxwell completing the atrocious catch.

“That is the catch of the BBL,” Brett Lee said while commentating for Fox Cricket.

“I reckon that is one of the best catches I have seen in any form of cricket ever.

“That is a catch for the ages,”
he added.

“That is the best catch in the BBL ever,” said Lee’s co-partner Andrew Symonds.

“There are different types of catches, but for degree of difficulty that is the best.”

Maxwell also shined with the ball, taking the wickets of opposition skipper Chris Lynn and Lachlan Pfeffer (11), and returning with impressive figures of 2/19 in his quota of four overs. In reply to Heat’s 149/6, Stars chased down the target with eight wickets in hand and 37 balls to spare.
