Jos Buttler's direct hit to dismiss Devon Conway
In an electrifying showdown at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday, England once again demonstrated their cricketing masterclass, securing a resounding 100-run victory over New Zealand. This dominant performance sealed the series and highlighted the world champion’s supremacy in the ODI format. The home team consistently delivered exceptional performances throughout the series, ultimately securing the 4-match ODI series with a convincing 3-1 lead.

Winning the toss, England decided to take the batting lead, demonstrating the might of their formidable batting lineup by setting an imposing target of 311 runs for the Black Caps. Once again, the spotlight fell on the exceptional Dawid Malan, who showcased his batting genius with a remarkable performance. The left-handed batter delivered a masterful innings, achieving his fifth ODI century in just 96 balls.

On the other side, England’s bowling unit exhibited their skills, outclassing the star-studded Kiwi batting lineup and limiting them to a mere 211 runs. Moeen Ali emerged as the standout bowler for England, impressively claiming four wickets while conceding just 50 runs. The pace duo of David Willey (1/28) and Brydon Carse (1/53) played a pivotal role in creating early pressure on the New Zealand batters right from the start of their chase.

Jos Buttler’s exceptional throw to knock out Devon Conway

The pivotal moment occurred during the second delivery of the sixth over when Reece Topley delivered a fuller-length ball aimed at the leg side of batter Will Young.

Young tried to play the ball, directing it away from his pads and initiating a single. The ball was collected byButtler, who was standing as the wicket-keeper behind the stumps. The English skipper wasted no time and directly executed a precise and powerful throw at the stumps.

Devon Conway, who was sprinting towards the danger end, was significantly short of reaching the crease as Buttler’s throw hit the stumps with pinpoint accuracy. The outcome left no room for doubt, and after the check by the third umpire, Conway was declared out, marking the first dismissal of New Zealand’s innings.
