Shubhman Gill falls victim to Jeffrey Vandersay in the second ODI
Gill returned to the dressing room shortly after Rohit, his senior opening partner and captain, was dismissed. The young opener scored 35 runs from 44 balls, including three bold boundaries, before falling victim to an ambitious off-side drive that led to his dismissal.
After racing to 35 off 43 balls, the young Indian opener Gill attempted to crash Jeffrey Vandersay‘s turning delivery onto his off-side. However, the cricketer managed to get a thick edge as the ball flew towards Kamindu Mendis at first slip.
In reply, Kamindu outstretched his right hand to grab the ball from behind him as India slipped to 116-2 in 17.1 overs.

Vandersay’s stunning spell shakes up the Indian batting order
After Gill’s dismissal, Vandersay continued his dominance by dismantling the Indian middle order. He claimed six wickets in just his first seven overs and conceded only 26 runs. His exceptional performance significantly altered the game’s dynamics, firmly turning the tide in Sri Lanka’s favor.
Earlier in the match, the Islanders finished at 240 for nine in their allotted 50 overs on a challenging turning wicket. Opener Avishka Fernando and no.8 Kamindu were the top scorers for the Sri Lankan side, each contributing 40 runs. For Team India, Washington Sundar was the standout bowler, taking three crucial wickets in his 10-over spell.
