Mitchell Santner catch, Jonny Bairstow dismissal
In a breathtaking display of athleticism and skill, Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell Santner defied gravity to pull off a stunning catch and dismiss Jonny Bairstow during the second One-Day International (ODI) between England and New Zealand in the ongoing four-match series.

The encounter, held in Southampton, had a particular buzz due to the return of New Zealand’s fast bowler Trent Boult, who was making his comeback after after declining the central contract in August last year. Boult was second over of the match when Santner’s brilliance on the field turned the tide in New Zealand’s favour.

The pivotal moment occurred in the third over of England’s innings. Boult bowled an inswinging delivery targeting the middle stump line, prompting England opener Bairstow to attempt a leg-side shot, playing across the line. However, the ball caught the leading edge of the bat, sending it soaring towards the cover region where Santner was strategically positioned. The fielder executed an astonishing leap, clutching the swiftly moving ball with just one hand.

The crowd at Rose Bowl erupted in cheers, and even the England supporters couldn’t help but appreciate the sheer brilliance of the catch. Bairstow, who couldn’t score much in the series opener at Cardiff, once again departed after mustering just six runs off eight balls. He was left in disbelief as Santner grabbed a stunner and made his way back to the pavilion.

Boult becomes 25th New Zealand player to feature in 100 ODIs

With his comeback to international cricket, Boult became the 25th player to achieve the milestone of 100 ODIs for New Zealand. Over his decade-long career, the left-arm pacer has also participated in 78 Test matches and 55 T20Is for the Black Caps.

Boult has established himself as one of the most successful wicket-takers in various formats. His skill in generating swing, both conventional and reverse, at a respectable pace, has proven to be a formidable challenge for numerous renowned batters.

He was handed his 100th ODI cap by his bowling partner and veteran seamer Tim Southee.
