Mitchell Starc cleans up Rory Burns on first delivery of Ashes 2021-22
The first Test of the highly-anticipated Ashes 20221-22 between Australia and England got off to a thunderous start as Aussie paceman Mitchell Starc cleaned up English opener Rory Burns for a golden duck in Brisbane.

Starc lit up the Gabba stadium after he clean bowled Burns on the very first delivery of the ongoing Ashes. The left-armer steamed in for the first ball and pitched it full, nailing the blockhole on the leg stump at 142kmph.

Burns shuffled across too far and missed his flick shot as the red-leather pierced through his defence to completely shatter the stumps. After the wicket, Starc was pumped up as he celebrated with his Australian teammates.

England get all out for 147 as Starc goes to record books

Starc etched his name in the record books with the wicket on the first ball of the over as he became only the second bowler in the history of Ashes to pick up a wicket with the first delivery of the series. The first person to do so was Australia’s Ernie McCormick, who had dismissed Stan Worthington in Brisbane in 1936.

Further, it was also the 13th time the New South Wales pacer had bagged a wicket in the opening over of a Test innings since 2014, getting past his Ashes rival James Anderson, who has 12 first-over wickets, in the same period.

Meanwhile, in the match, Australia bundled out England for just 147, thanks to some incredible bowling display. Starc took two wickets in 12 overs, but the first innings’ main star was newly appointed Aussie skipper Pat Cummins.

Cummins demolished the visitors’ batting unit and bagged a five-wicket haul. He dismissed Haseeb Hameed (25), Ben Stokes (5), Chris Woakes (21), Ollie Robinson (0), and Mark Wood (8) to complete his first fifer as Australian Test skipper. Speedster Josh Hazlewood picked up a couple of scalps in 13 overs, while all-rounder Cameron Green took his maiden Test wicket in the form of Ollie Pope (35).
