Mohammed Shami knocks over Litton Das
India took on Bangladesh in the sixth and final match of the Super 4s round in Asia Cup 2023 on Friday (September 15). The Men in Blue started off things in style with Mohammed Shami leaving a lasting impact with an absolute ripper of a delivery that sent Bangladesh opener Litton Das packing for a two-ball duck. The early breakthrough by Shami set the tone for India in the contest.

The sensational delivery from Shami to Litton came on the second ball of the third over when he produced a ball that cut back in off the seam with deceptive movement. Litton Das eventually found himself caught in a dilemma, struggling to adjust and bring his bat down in time. The delivery featured a brilliant upright seam, wobbling and confusing the batter as it contemplated its path.

Ultimately, the red leather nipped back in towards the right-hander, opening up a massive gap between Das’ bat and pad. Litton, perhaps deceived by the original line, played in wrong line altogether, and the ball crashed into his off-stump after brushing against the pad. It was a key early wicket for India, and Shami’s skill and precision were well-appreciated by his teammates.

Another potent force in India’s bowling arsenal, Shardul Thakur, joined the party by picking up two more crucial wickets, which left Bangladesh reeling at 28/3 in just 5.4 overs, putting them on the back foot early in the game.

It is worth mentioning that Bangladesh are already out of contention for the final race in the Asia Cup 2023, while India have secured their spot in the summit clash and, therefore, opted to experiment with their line-up in this relatively low-stakes encounter. Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Shardul, Prasidh Krishna and Shami were the five inclusions in the Indian team for this match against Bangladesh.
