Asked to bat first, KKR didn’t start well and lost their opener Narayan Jagadeesan for a duck in the second over of the innings. However, Venkatesh Iyer scored a brilliant century for his team and propelled Kolkata to a competitive total of 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Iyer scored 104 runs off just 51 balls, including six fours and nine maximums. Meanwhile, Hrithik Shokeen was the pick of the bowlers for MI, as he scalped two wickets and gave away 34 runs in his quota of four overs.
Chasing the target of 186, MI got off to a flying start with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 65 runs for the first wicket. However, Rohit was dismissed on a score of 20 runs courtesy of a brilliant catch by Umesh Yadav. Notably, Rohit was not part of the MI’s starting eleven and came in as an Impact Substitute during the second innings.
The sensational fielding effort from Umesh came on the penultimate ball of the fifth over, when Rohit initiated a punchy drive off Suyash Sharma’s straighter delivery, and the Uttar Pradesh cricketer dived towards his left to get hold of the ball hit by MI batter. While Umesh was spotted smiling after the catch, Rohit also giggled as he walked back to the pavilion.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma also played crucial knocks of 43 and 30 runs, guiding MI to a five-wicket victory. On the other hand, Suyash picked two wickets for KKR in the match but unfortunately ended up on the losing side.
