Sam Curran's spectacular catch
In a thrilling encounter of The Hundred Men’s 2024, the Oval Invincibles edged past Manchester Originals by three runs in the 18th match of the tournament. The major highlight of the match was a stunning catch by Sam Curran that turned the tide in favor of the Invincibles.

Sam Curran’s spectacular catch

On the 82nd ball of the second innings, bowler Adam Zampa delivered a crucial ball to Paul Walter, who seemed set to hit another six. However, the wind played a pivotal role, holding the ball just enough. Positioned at deep mid-wicket, Curran made a remarkable judgment, catching the ball right at the boundary cushions. Initially stepping out of the field, Curran brilliantly managed to re-enter and complete the catch, sending Walter back to the pavilion. This crucial catch ended Walter’s knock of 28 runs off 14 balls, including four sixes.

Curran’s all-round performance propels Oval Invincibles to victory

Batting first, the Oval Invincibles posted a competitive total of 164 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 100 balls. Their innings were anchored by an impressive 68 runs off 38 balls from their top scorer, who hit two fours and six sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 178.95.

In response, the Manchester Originals gave a valiant effort, scoring 161 for 7 in their allotted 100 balls. Matthew Hurst’s brilliant half-century was a key highlight of their innings. Despite Hurst’s efforts, the Originals fell short, thanks to outstanding bowling performances by Zampa and Curran. Zampa claimed two wickets in his 20 deliveries, while Curran also took two wickets in his 15 deliveries.

Curran’s all-round performance, including his match-winning innings and his effective bowling, earned him the Man of the Match title.

Rock-bottom for Manchester Originals

The victory propelled the Oval Invincibles to the second position on the points table, solidifying their strong presence in the tournament.

Conversely, the Manchester Originals’ defeat marked their fifth consecutive loss, anchoring them at the bottom of the points table. They are yet to secure a win in this tournament, making their path to the next stage increasingly difficult.
