Sandeep Sharma's catch
The IPL 2023 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday lived up to what was advertised as the 1000th match of the tournament’s history. The game featured a number of highlights, all of which culminated with Tim David hitting three successive sixes and leading MI to victory in a record chase at the Wankhede Stadium.

Among all, the most memorable moment was Sandeep Sharma’s dazzling catch that ended dangerous batsman Suryakumar Yadav’s innings.

MI were supported by a threatening stand in Tilak Varma and Suryakumar as they chased a target of 213 in 19.5 overs. Suryakumar was batting on 55 off 29 balls when he tried a pull-shot off Trent Boult. Sandeep chased the ball, running back from short fine leg, and completed a blinder.

Harsha Bhogle, an on-air commentator, described the sequence of events as “Has he cleared the fielder? I think he has, oh what a catch! This going to be one of the catches of the season”.

The IPL shared a video of the spectacular catch, which has been recognized as one of the best catches in the tournament.

Here’s the video:

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal led Rajasthan to 217/7, achieving his first ever IPL century. He scored 124 runs in 62 balls, accounting for nearly half of his team’s total. However, that wasn’t sufficient as MI dragged off the greatest run-chase ever at the Wankhede Stadium.

Suryakumar was the top scorer for MI, but Varma and Cameron Green also contributed significantly. The evening’s standout performance, nevertheless, was David’s finish to the chase. With MI needing 15 off the last over to win, David hit consecutive sixes of first three to take his team over the line.
