Sunil Narine 500th T20 wicket
On Wednesday, West Indies off-spinner Sunil Narine achieved a remarkable feat by joining an elite group of bowlers who have taken 500 wickets in T20 cricket. The 35-year-old accomplished this milestone while playing for Surrey against Glamorgan in the T20 Blast, where his team won by 65 runs.

Narine reached this significant mark during the beginning of his second over when Colin Ingram, a left-handed batsman from South Africa, was caught out by Sam Curran at deep mid-wicket. This wicket put Glamorgan at 75 for three in their pursuit of a target of 237 for victory.

By the end of his spell, Narine had figures of one for 34 from four overs as Glamorgan could mange just 171-8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Dwayne Bravo, Narine’s compatriot from Trinidad and former teammate in the West Indies team, was the first bowler to achieve the 500-wicket milestone in T20 cricket. Bravo currently holds the record with 615 wickets. Rashid Khan, the leg-spinner from Afghanistan, is in second place on the all-time list with an impressive tally of 555 wickets.

In the ongoing season for Surrey, Narine has taken 11 wickets in seven matches. However, he faced challenges during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he picked only 11 wickets in 14 matches.

Earlier in the match, opening batter Laurie Evans delivered an exceptional performance for Surrey as they chose to bat first. Evans remained unbeaten on 118 runs off just 60 balls, striking an impressive twelve fours and six sixes. His remarkable innings formed the backbone of Surrey’s imposing total of 236-2. Evans formed crucial partnerships, including a 115-run opening stand with Will Jacks (46) and a further 118-run partnership with Curran, who blasted a quickfire 66 off just 29 balls, featuring a four and seven sixes.
