Former President Donald Trump’s lapdog Rudy Giuliani, who had his license to practice law in New York suspended already, goes before a board on Monday that will weigh whether he did in fact violate attorney ethics rules as he peddled conspiracy theories and disinformation about the 2020 election.
Giuliani’s license in New York was suspended in June 2021 after a court in the Empire State found he made “demonstrably false and misleading statements” while he worked to advance Trump’s bogus claims of election fraud. His conduct, the court found, “directly inflamed tensions that bubbled over into the events of January 6, 2021, in this nation’s Capitol.”
Rusty Bowers, the Arizona House speaker, told the Jan. 6 committee under oath this summer that Giuliani was never able to provide any proof or evidence to support the fraud claims peddled by Trump.
“He said, ‘we’ve got lots of theories, we just don’t have the evidence,’” Bowers recalled the former New York City mayor saying during a meeting in the weeks before the insurrection at the Capitol.

The disciplinary hearing now underway is led by the Board on Professional Responsibility. Giuliani is testifying on his own behalf.
According to reporting by CNN, Giuliani initially “signaled interest” in bringing witnesses forward who could discuss the “fraud” he claims to have witnessed in the 2020 election. But on the advice of those individuals’ own lawyers, they opted against joining Giuliani for his latest descent down the rabbit hole.
The hearing will take several days and is presented in a trial format. Once the hearing is over, a report will be issued with recommendations that will go to a court of appeals in Washington, D.C.
A representative for Giuliani could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.
It was only last month that Giuliani managed to evade criminal charges tied to a grand jury probe in New York scrutinizing his potential violations of U.S. lobbying laws when he was in Ukraine angling to dig up political dirt on Joe Biden.
The Big Lie peddler is still facing a criminal probe led by a grand jury in Georgia that is exploring former President Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat in that state.
