Notably, Khawaja was picked in the playing XI after Travis Head was ruled out of the Sydney Test due to COVID-19. The Queenslander cashed in the opportunity with both hands and went on to score 137 runs with the help of 13 boundaries.
Riding on Khawaja’s splendid hundred, the hosts declared their first innings at 416/8. After reaching the triple-figure mark, the left-handed batter jumped with joy and acknowledged the crowd, where his family members were also present.
Khawaja’s stunning comeback century was cheered on by his wife Rachel McCellan and daughter Aisha. The official Twitter handle of Cricket Australia shared the heartwarming moment with a caption ‘Family.’

“I couldn’t find them”: Khawaja on his family after scoring a ton
The sight of Khawaja’s wife and daughter celebrating in the crowd melted everyone’s heart. However, the left-hander revealed that he had no idea where they were sitting in the stadium when he reached his century.
“It is special. I was actually trying to look for my wife and daughter. I saw them on the big screen, but I was like, I don’t know where they are sitting. I tried to look for them, but I couldn’t find them,” Khawaja revealed during the post-day interview with Fox Cricket.
“It is really special. I am really blessed. I have so much fun. Aisha is an absolute legend. She is so much fun. I’m humbled. I’m lost for words. I am very grateful. Every time I go out to play for Australia, it is special. Then when you score a hundred on top of that. I guess the only way to make it better would be to get a victory here. That would be the next go,” he added.
