In a thrilling conclusion to the India tour of West Indies 2023, the West Indies squared off with India in the 5th T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on Sunday, August 13. Electing to bat first, India set a target of 166 runs, but West Indies put on an impressive show to secure an eight-wicket victory, sealing the series with a 3-2 scoreline.

India Innings:​


India started their innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, but the opening partnership was short-lived as both batsmen fell early. Suryakumar Yadav anchored the innings with a brilliant knock of 61 runs off 45 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Tilak Varma contributed a valuable 27 off 18 balls. Despite a few cameos from other players, the Hardik Pandya-led side managed to post just 165/9 on a batter-friendly surface.

The West Indies bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, with Romario Shepherd being the standout performer, claiming four wickets for 31 runs. Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein also chipped in with crucial wickets.

West Indies Innings:​


Chasing 166 for victory, the West Indies displayed exceptional batting prowess. Brandon King’s explosive knock of 85 not out off 55 balls, including five fours and six sixes, set the tone for their chase. Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive 47 off 35 balls and Shai Hope’s quick 22 off 13 balls further solidified the West Indies’ position. The team reached the target with two overs to spare, finishing at 171/2 in 18 overs.

Among the Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh and Tilak Varma managed to take one wicket each, but the West Indies batters controlled the game and secured their victory.

The West Indies secured an emphatic eight-wicket win over India in the 5th T20I, clinching the series 3-2. Romario Shepherd’s all-around performance earned him the Player of the Match award for his significant contribution.
