Virat Kohli currently holds the orange cap in the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Over his last 8 innings, Kohli has amassed 379 runs at a strike rate of 150, including a century. In the recent match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the star Indian batter was looking good before getting out in a controversial way, as he scored 18 off 7 balls.

Following this, Kohli is receiving widespread acclaim from cricket enthusiasts and fans worldwide. Adding to the praise, Sourav Ganguly, the Director of Cricket of Delhi Capitals (DC), has lauded former RCB skipper for his performance.

Sourav Ganguly hopes Kohli to hit a 40-ball ton

Speaking at a media event, Sourav Ganguly said that Indian cricketers should play fearlessly and emphasized that there is no age limit for cricketers in formats like T20Is.

“The most important thing for India is to play without fear. There is no hard and fast rule about age and playing youngsters in T20Is, James Anderson still plays Tests and bowls 30 overs in Tests, MS Dhoni still hits sixes and both are in their 40s. Six-hitting is important. Virat has got the capability to hit a 40-ball century. It is about playing fearlessly and freely in T20Is,” said Ganguly, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

“India needs to go out and hit. Rohit, Virat, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya etc. All of them are exceptional talents and their six-hitting abilities are tremendous,” the 51-year-old added.

Will Kohli and Rohit Sharma open for India in the T20 World Cup?

As the T20 World Cup approaches, there’s widespread speculation about Rohit Sharma and Kohli potentially opening for India in the tournament. However, Ganguly has moved to quash these rumours, urging the need for fans to only go to any point once the selectors make official announcements.

“We haven’t met so far, we haven’t decided who’ll open at the World Cup (on Virat Kohli’s question). In today’s age, until and unless you don’t hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, everything else is fake,” the former BCCI president stated.
